Not only is it for four bassoons, but the thematic material is centered around the tonal harmonies of chords by fourths. Completed in December 2012, this piece not only features four bassoonists, but is centered around the tonal harmonies of chords by fourths. The pieces combines parallel motion of perfect fourth intervals, or quartal harmony, along with canonical entrances. The piece can be divided into four larger sections. Sections I and IV are quick and percussive, while sections II and III explore the same tonal world with long sustained chords. It was premiered on March 23rd, 2013 at the UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
